How to connect BlackBerry 4.0 Installation Steps

Q: BlackBerry 4.0 Installation Steps
A: Please note: If you have BlackBerry Desktop Software already installed you must first perform a clean uninstall of it. Please follow the instructions published here.

Here are the basic instructions for installing your BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0 Enterprise Edition and the handheld device for use with your Intermedia's Exchange server.

1. To access your e-mail with your handheld device you will first need to be registered with the wireless network and have the proper service, Enterprise Mail. Also, make sure you have BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0 Enterprise Edition.

2. Install the BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.0 Enterprise Edition choosing all the defaults during the installation except you must choose BlackBerry Enterprise Server instead of Desktop Redirector.  See below for step-by-step instructions.

13.  You will be prompted to select the Outlook profile to be used with the Blackberry (this should be your Intermedia Exchange profile)

14. Install the BlackBerry Cradle into a serial port on your computer (if you have a BlackBerry 957, also plug in the power cord and hook it into the serial connector that is plugged into the computer).  Put the BlackBerry device in the cradle.

15.Run the BlackBerry Desktop Manager Application.  It should open a window that looks like this:

16. You should be prompted to select the Connection Settings, if not go to Options and select Connection Settings:

17.  Hit the Detect Button and the software will find the BlackBerry device in the cradle

18.  The Encryption Key is auto-generated at this point and the device is initialized:

19.  Go to Options and select the Hide when Minimized option:

20.  In the Desktop Software go to the Intellisync choice:

21. Make sure all four check boxes are checked:

22. Click the Auto start... button and make sure all four check boxes are checked and click OK:

23. Click the Configure PIM button:

24. Double click on the Address Book choice and you will be presented with several choice for applications that the BlackBerry can synchronize with.  Choose MS Outlook and click OK:

25. Follow the same step for the Calendar (choosing MS Outlook Wireless Sync), Memopad and Tasks and you will end up with a set like the following picture.  Click OK and then click Close for the Intellisync window:

26. Double Click on the Redirector Settings:

27. You will get a window that looks like the following picture.  Clear out Auto-signature and place whatever text you would like to have displayed at the end of all your email messages (or nothing at all):

28. Click on the Filters tab and uncheck the two default filters.  At the bottom of the window, where the option for "When none of the above rules apply:” choose Forward message to handheld and click OK:

29. Take the device out of the cradle and put it back in.  This will now add the calendar, contacts, folders and other Outlook information into the BlackBerry.

30.  Once the synchronization is complete, go onto the device and turn on the wireless networking (if off) by finding the antenna icon and clicking on it, turning it into an airplane.  You will see a signal strength indicator in the top right hand corner of the device, right under the battery power indicator.  You should then start receiving messages.

31.  In the Desktop Software go to the Intellisync choice:

33.  Double click on the Calendar choice and you will be presented with several choice for applications that the BlackBerry can synchronize with.  Select Blackberry Wireless Sync and click OK:

35.  Click Close at the Intellisync window.
